Call for Submissions for the 2nd DUTA Biennial of Visual Arts

2nd DUTA Biennial of Visual Arts'Codified World' is the theme of this year's biennial. Of this codified world what is the artist's point of view? In African societies, there are visible and invisible codes, some require an initiation. How do we decipher them, how do they translate into artwork? In the era of globalisation, how is Africa integrating?





Conditions of participation:


  1. The biennial is open to painters, sculptors, video artists and photographers originally from the African continent, residing in Africa and overseas. We will also include all artists living in the West Indies.
  2. All media, silverprints, digital and others will be accepted.
  3. A selection committee, consisting of an A&R for Central Africa, an A&R for West Africa and 2 A&Rs for the West Indies, all supervised by the Chief A&R will meet by the deadline. The committee's decision will be without appeal.

Applications not returned to the candidates will be archived by the Association ZOOM. Applications must include the following:

  • For photographers, 10 prints of a minimum format of 13x18 and a maximum of 30x40 sheets or a 300 dpi per image CD.
  • For painters, photographs of work. NB: Dimensions of the work should not exceed 120x120 maximum.
  • Sculptors (maximum of 3) should not exceed a maximum weight of 30 kg for a maximum height of 1.20 meters. To forward the images (CD or a 13x18 paper format) front, profile and back views of each work.
  • Video artists must send a synopsis of their work as well as a recording on CD.
  • Each work must be entitled and dated, bearing the artist's name and country of origin. A curriculum vitae and a short biography (approximately 10 lines) of the artist must be provided as well as a supporting letter outlining how the suggested work relates to DUTA's theme.
