Doual’art (Douala, Cameroon)

Organized by Doual’art and iStrike foundation, this event will take between 9th and 16th Dec. 2007 during the Salon Urbain de Douala, SUD. Participants will approach the cityscape visiting the most experimental public art projects throughout Douala. Two conferences will put the spotlight on the methodologies and impact of urban interventions allowing experts and dwellers to exchange and evaluate the most effective solutions. The theoretical discussion will develop alongside the presentation of the publication Douala in Translation and of site-specific installations produced ad-hoc for SUD and tackling issues like urban mobility, heritage, informal sector, recycling and modernity. Tchianze Justin alias T.J. Pako is a fine artist based in Yaounde. Though the path leading to his workshop is unkempt with over grown grass and trees, it is attractive because of the fine paintings on exhibition at the entrance. When asked why he has decided to display his works around his jobsite, he replied: "fine arts have no particular place to be displayed for sale". J.T.
